About Us
Vaaka is inspired by the Tamil and Malayalam word for ‘word’, வாக்கு
which is the starting point for all stories. Without the words, there can be no stories.
Stories tell us who we are, where we have come from, and where we might go next.
But what role does storytelling play in the fast and blippy digital world? What happens when the telling of a story is one dimensional? When hashtags and clever editing skew the narrative? As stories find their way from our smartphones to our living rooms and dining tables, we must constantly ask, are our stories leaving anyone out?
At the heart of everything we do at Vaaka Media is the belief that we should have better and more informed conversations about the issues we care about, and stories that ignite these conversations. Stories stitched together from multiple dimensions and viewpoints. Stories that communities care about. Stories that we care about.
Vaaka Media is research-based in our approach, and together bring years of development-sector knowledge in research and communications, publishing, marketing, PR and writing.
We work with NGOs, non-profits, philanthropies and mission-driven companies to craft experimental, immersive and thought driven stories that reach audiences. We help organizations that are doing great work, find better ways to tell their story, form partnerships, and improve the impact of their work through storytelling.

Today we’re in a battle of the narrative, storytelling has never been more powerful, but the fast blippy mediums of the digital world are not necessarily helping us see straight, or see deep. We are surrounded by one dimensional telling of the story. As the stories of groups and their struggles have found their way to our living rooms and dining tables, we should constantly ask ourselves, are our stories leaving anyone out?
Perhaps the most urgent and most vital need is for multiple stories from multiple dimensions, and underlying everything we do at Vaaka is the desire to present stories that are authentic expressions of an active, informed public. At the heart of everything we do at Vaaka is the belief that we can have better and more informed conversations about the issues we care about.
We tell stories that communities care about.
We make shows that are based in documentary, showcase inspiring people, and by telling stories that communities care about. We also do this by helping organizations that are doing great work, find better ways to tell their story, form partnerships, and improve the impact of their work through storytelling.
Vaaka works with NGOs, non-profits, philanthropies and mission-driven companies to craft messages and strategies that reach audiences. We are research-based in our approach, and together bring years of development-sector knowledge in research and communications, publishing, marketing, PR and writing.
